SPINALONGA AFTERNOON

Driving along the North East Coast we reach first the male monastery of Saint George Selinaris, which is built in the heart of gorge Selinari, near the village Vrachasi and Neapoli. It is worth stopping at the monastery and admiring the beauty of the lush canyon. After that short stop we will go straight of the gulf of Mirabello. Here we will have the chance to enjoy our coffee or lunch getting a perfect view of the magnificent lake, do our shopping in the traditional local shops and relax for a while before we take the road to Elounda, a beautiful village from where we will take the ship to Spinalonga.
It used to be a leper colony from 1903 until 1957, where lepers could have a better life, medical help and economical support. The ruins of the market street with the shops, the hospital and many small houses in which lepers lived isolated, can still be seen. At the end, we will go back to Elounda where each one of us will have time for swimming, shopping, drinking coffee etc.
